What started as a normal week of camp 10 years ago, turned out to become one of my highlights every year and a place I call home. People ask me why I still go to @badcoachsummercamp every year. The real reason why all players, coaches and I come back every year isn’t because we just want to play badminton. The reason we come back is that we want to go back to the place where we can be ourselves, learn more about ourselves and express ourselves without giving a f*ck about what other people think. I learned everything about badminton that I use and teach today at Badcoach, but I also learned that you can create an environment where people can express their thoughts and emotions without feeling the need to hide it. Being and becoming yourself is what makes Badcoach so special and the reason I go back every year. Although we said goodbye to Noorderwijk 3 years ago and I made the switch to being a coach, I still learn and enjoy it as much as that little 14-year old boy did 10 years ago. To all the friends that I made along the way, thank you for making every year special.🖤 Thank you to @roelvanheuckelom @andreas.johannsen3 @johansennicolai @jonas_bangsgaard for believing in me when no other coach did. When I’m a National champion, it’s because of you guys.💚 I wasn’t going to cry, but writing about these 10 years made me think about how far I’ve come and how much influence the right people can have on you and everything you put your mind to. Badcoach werkt op een unieke manier, niet alleen voor spelers te trainen maar ook om trainers op te leiden. De individuele aanpak per speler maakt het mogelijk om als trainer een goede band te creëren met elke speler en zo precies te weten waarop ieders focus ligt. Als trainer is het ook een zware dag. Je leert niet van slechts 1 trainer, maar van 5 à 6 toptrainers. Dit zorgt voor een brede waaier aan kennis en info, het verruimt ook je kijk op badminton. De besprekingen/discussies 's avonds zorgen voor diepgaande gesprekken waarop echt op specifieke technische en tactische details uren doorgepraat kan worden. Het discussiëren over zulke details geeft je een heel andere manier om trainingen te benaderen. Kortom: enorme aanrader.

Badcoach Traineeship is een ervaring die je sowieso onderschat. Het verschil met andere opleidingen is de totale en plotselinge onderdompeling in het training geven en redeneren op verschillende manieren. De overvloed aan inzichten die meegegeven worden zorgen voor een andere kijk op de sport, op training geven en op probleemoplossend denken. Er wordt niet gedaan aan papegaaienwerk, maar steeds geredeneerd waarom en wanneer iets wel of niet kan werken. Voor mezelf als trainer was deze kennisrijke ervaring confronterend, maar ook verlichtend. Ik ben badminton anders gaan bekijken, alsook te ontwikkeling van spelers. Hiernaar kijken op een geheel andere manier dan voorheen zorgt voor sterke resultaten in mijn trainingen. De begeleiding die hierbij gegeven wordt, geeft je de ruimte ideeën in vraag te stellen om zelf tot het antwoord te komen. Ik kan Badcoach Traineeship voor iedereen aanbevelen, zowel voor onervaren als ervaren trainers. De overvloed aan ervaring en kwaliteit onder de vaste trainers zorgen voor de perfecte begeleiding om sterker in je schoenen te staan en een eigen visie op te bouwen. Zelfs als je zeker bent van hoe badminton werkt, zal je merken dat de conversaties/discussies tussen de trainers en de trainees, maar ook tussen de trainers onderling nieuwe openingen bieden naar weer andere invalspunten. Kort gezegd: "Badcoach, it's in the name!"

Het was enorm leerrijk om dit jaar badcoach zowel als speler en als coach te mogen meemaken. Als beginnende coach ben je nog vaak onzeker, wat logisch is maar door 5 dagen badcoach heb ik zeer veel zelfvertrouwen bijgekregen. Ik heb vele leerrijke gesprekken had met de coaches en leren dieper en verder nadenken over vele onderwerpen in het badminton. Ik kan het iedereen aanraden!

Experienced it from the other side for the first time and loved it just as much. Hearing your laughs and seeing everyone have fun fills me with joy and gratitude. What a wonderful week on @badcoachsummercamp. Those beautiful moments will forever be in my memories. I wanted to say thank you, to everyone. All the players who were part of this special group, with who I could train, sing, laugh, dance and just have fun. All the coaches for putting in so much effort, doing everything to help us improve. The staff, this camp wasn't possible without them. And @mike_flanagan87, my wife, father and player😉 Although we were with so many. Another one for the books! Amazing week well spent, with the bestest of coaches and players. Few things are hard to describe in life, this camp is one of those. The environment this camp creates is unmatched. The progress and learning on court combined with 200% fun off court makes such a strong bond with everyone around you. Goodbye's are difficult, thats why this isn't one. It's a promise for next year, same place same time, to Play/Dance/Sing/Laugh/Cry/Hug/Love/... together again. Coachen bij Badcoach en de BATRE-opleiding heeft mij als trainer enorm verrijkt. De praktische aanpak en de directe ondersteuning van het coachteam zorgen voor een omgeving waarin je oprecht veel leert. Er is altijd een open uitnodiging om uit je comfortzone te stappen, zonder enige druk op prestatie. Hierdoor voelt de hele opleiding als een veilige omgeving om te experimenteren, vragen te stellen en uitdagingen aan te gaan. Wat dit kamp zo bijzonder maakt voor mij, is dat er enorme aandacht besteed wordt aan zowel sportieve als persoonlijke aspecten. De hele ervaring zorgt voor een transformatie en nieuwe inzichten, op veel meer vlakken dan enkel badminton. Voor mij zorgt deze opleiding telkens voor inspiratie om nieuwe ideeën verder te ontwikkelen, motivatie om te blijven evolueren als coach en bovenal het plezier te behouden in wat je doet.
